Kamini looked at the little one as she slept cosily in the cradle, oblivious to her surroundings.
A tear trickled down her cheek. And then another.
Tears of joy, love, gratitude, tears of pain for the humiliation and wrath that they had to undergo – right from the time their relationship was made public.
They still hadn’t been accepted as a couple by her family.
The day they decided to become parents- a new battle started.
They knew they could never have a child of their own biologically- but adoption would be such a nightmare for a couple- they had never imagined.
They had almost give up-the humiliation, probing questions, taunts was too much to take. But hope of having a child they could call their own, kept them moving on.
The void was no longer there now. Their baby was home.
She heard a gentle nudge and turned to see Kalpana.
They stood, arm in arm as they watched over their little princess. A new journey as parents had just begun.

It’s lesbians – you realised right?

Yes of course I figured that out and even though I have respect for individuals and their preferences , homosexual families are another thing( for me )

That’s always tricky, fear no one way of looking at it!

why was adoption a nightmare? Given the fact they didn’t have kids it should have been smoother.Good thought. I almost felt like writing on adoption but decided on IVF.

This is probably the sad reality of our times. High time people change their thoughts and perception of lesbians and accept them. A nice take on the prompt, Akshata.

That’s a great take, Akshata. Very thoughtful. I really wish our society starts to accept every kind of relationship. Each relationship is pure and born out of love, why judge the same, just because it doesn’t match with our ideologies. lovely post. Cheers!
