Amy looked at Sweeny as she contentedly swam in her fancy little aquarium.
“Are you truly happy little fish? In this aquarium? Don’t you desire to be free, swim in the ocean, the vast expanse of blue sky overhead, your family and friends around you- isn’t that where your home is?
Just like me- I wish I could be free, have a normal childhood like other kids, go to a regular school, play in the mud and climb trees. But here I lay, in a palace. Out of bounds, because I am royalty. They say I have the perfect life but how I wish I could just have the ordinary life instead.”
Sweeny looked at Amy for a second, it felt like she shared the same pain. She yearned for freedom.
Amy stared at blue waters ahead of her. The royal family had come on a vacation to a private island. There were scores of servants waiting upon them, a feast had been cooked.
Amy walked towards the beach, a small pot in her hands with Sweeny inside. A tear trickled down her cheek. “I will miss you my beloved friend. But one of us is finally getting her freedom, live your life Sweeny and God know one day I shall live mine too”.
Linking up with Priceless Joy who hosts a weekly flash fiction for aspiring writers.
Hopefully she learns the lesson that her position of privilege can be used to do some good for those less fortunate, just like Sweeny.

I wonder how different Meghan Markle’s life is now than when she was “just” a television star.

It makes me think of Grace Kelly, another Hollywood regular who married into a royal existence. She was hounded by the press even after her death.
