The aroma of freshly baked donuts and hot chocolate sauce wafted through the room.
The children crowded around the little dog figurine who was seated on a donut as the most appealing chocolate cupcake lay atop his head. It was very hard to resist the temptation of taking a bite.
Marie looked at the kids expectantly- “come on grab a bite its all for you”- her gaze was fixed on me. “You can do it, its not as hard as it seems”. I gulped some air, rubbed my sweaty palms together, picked up a piece of the cup cake and brought it close to my mouth.
Mustering every ounce of courage I opened my mouth wide and took in a bite. They all clapped. I smiled and chewed my cake.
15 minutes later while the other kids were busy devouring the feast my Mom had lovingly prepared, I made some excuse and ran away. Once in the washroom, I put my hand deep down my throat and vomitted. I made sure every bit of that cupcake was out of my system.
They termed it as anorexia nervosa, but for me bringing out food felt liberating. I prayed for the poor doggie whose sacrifice has gone in vain.

Well knit story, Akshata. But. didn’t get the ‘dog’s sacrifice’ part though.

Thanks Varad I should have probably eliminated that line it sounds forced does it? What I meant to convey is the girl did not eat the cupcake after all so the dog fifurine’s life which was meant to be relished was a waste

ah ok but it would be better without the last line. great take on the picture though, connecting it with anna

Thx for that feedback Kanika I was struggling to give it a befitting end and stick to the word limit

I know a girl from my hostel days who would exactly do this. Any amount of extra calories as per her meant forced vomiting to ensure she stayed in shape. Very powerful take on the prompt.

Hey well written as always. I see that these days you are writing a lot more to create awareness around certain types of illness. A for the effort. I also didn’t understand the dog reference until I read the comment.

Thanks for that Lav. That dog reference was probably not the best way to end it
