Karma #TellTaleThursday

“I think I killed a man” I repeated to myself, my hand were icy cold. Life can turn topsy turvy in a matter of seconds, I realised how true this is today.

I hate driving but there were too many errands to run today and I had to take out the car- I stopped at the tailor’s shop to get my altered blouse, the supermarket to buy sausages, Nandu’s for the famous cupcakes and the laundry shop finally. Focus on the road is what they always said, but I had a hundred things running through my mind since the guests coming home today were very important. I did not see him coming and by the time I put the brake it was too late.

The screeching of the tires and a loud shriek was all I heard. My leg pressed the accelerator and I fled- though my mind kept telling me to stop. This is not right, you need to take responsibility for what you did, what if there is hope that he is alive? But the rational part of me shut this voice up “Dont be a fool, what if he is dead? Do you want to spend the rest of your life behind bars? What about your kids? Its a big day today, Akash’s fiancé  is coming home, its the start of a new relationship, will you ruin it by turning yourself in? It was a mistake.Put it behind and move on.

By the time I reached home, I appeared normal. I had trained my mind to think of it as something that happened to someone else. I went in, all smiles, hands with cupcakes and groceries.

Akash stood near the window with a tear stricken face, he turned towards me “Shivani called off the engagement Ma, her Dad was run over by a car few minutes ago. The police are clueless but she has vowed to find the killer. Till then she wont rest in peace”
