Not so funny #FFFAW #FlashFiction

I love long drives, racing down the highway with my favourite music barring through the speaker, as the cool breeze blows in my ears. Without a care about the world. It sets me free.

I badly needed the road trip after the fiasco at work. I suddenly see a lone figure waving at me frantically. I apply a sudden break and the car screeches to a halt.

“Dumwit , you could have lost your life”.

“I badly need to get to the hospital sir, can you be kind to give me a lift”, a girl barely 16, pleads.

I am wary of giving a lift to strangers but what harm can this lanky girl bring, I think and open the car door.

She leaps in and I drive in silence.

“Aren’t you scared?” she asks after a while ” This place is haunted by ghosts, you still offer a lift to a stranger”

I chuckle “Oh so you are a ghost. Hello Ms Ghost pleased to meet you”

“A girl all alone on a deserted road, with a white gown and hair let loose, pale skin and lifeless eyes, how human do I look?”

I smirk “I am not afraid, I don’t believe in ghosts”.

“Even when my feet are not straight like yours” she hisses.

I turn towards her, terror written on my face.

The car smashes a tree and after a loud shriek, an eerie silence prevails.

Linking up with Priceless Joy who hosts a weekly flash fiction for writers. Thanks Jodi McKinney. for the picture.
