Arrival #AtoZChallenge #BlogchatterA2Z

12 December, Sunday, 8 am. I let out a ear piercing scream as I kick my way into this world. Imagine passing through that narrow vagina- I wonder why on earth they call it normal.

While everyone talks about how painful it is for the mom, do you think its easy peasy for a tiny baby? Hell no. But I was glad to be out. 10 months of living in darkness, I wonder why they say a baby loves it. Boy I was glad to get a glimpse of the world- the nurses in their pink uniforms, that gynec uncle whose voice I know so well by now, Daddy with his moth wide open who looked like he will faint any moment and the most precious person- My Mommy.

Doesn’t the world look so colourful, gay, bright, full of hope? I, Myra cant wait to grow up and soak in the wonderful experiences the world has to offer.

Only 2.8 kgs, thin hair and too big eyes- I was in for a rude shock when I overheard someone whisper about me. I had just come into this world and the judgement had already begun. They were comparing me to a baby born in the next room- a chubby 3.5 kg he was. I peered enviously.

I dint feel so good now. I wanted my Mumma. But she was sleeping, blissfully unaware of  the turmoil I was in. I longed for her warmth, her soothing voice, her touch, her bosom. Perhaps I was too hasty in coming out. Is there a way I can get back into Mummy’s tummy?

And then I hear my Nani say “Snehal was keen to have a boy”, I freeze.

Linking up with #BlogchatterA2ZChallenge -Letter A

My theme for the challenge is

“A slice of life through Myra’s eyes” – a fictional tale of growing up and learning some vital lessons about self love, feminism, sisterhood, a working woman and the essence of being a woman in urban India.

  1. A beautiful beginning, Akshata. Looking to the following posts… can’t wait. M glad that once again, we both are writing on womanhood. I love reading your posts around this topic. And, of course, your feedback on mine, no pressure though. 🙂

  2. That is so heartbreaking though. And it is just the start of all the comparisons Myra will have to face in life. Sad but true. Will be following this series. All the best

  3. Was the granny voicing her own thoughts rather than that of the new mother, I wonder! After a great ordeal, Snehal and the Myra’s father must have been happy …I wish to believe this.
More power to Myra, born tough!
    What a powerful start Akshata!
