Suma stared at the picture on her Mac- it symbolised her current situation in life so well.
Here she was at the crossroads- which path should she take? The safe and secure one which will ensure she maintains her dignity, status and has the security of her family and money for rest of her life? But would that make her happy?
She knew her happiness was in coming out in the open about her new found friendship, perhaps more than a friendship with Amar- at this stage in life when she had fulfilled all her responsibilities a s a wife, mother, grandmother and was living a dull, mundane life as a widow, dint she deserve some sunshine?
Maybe it was wrong in the eyes of society, a 70 year old woman who shared a bond with a 65 year old man- but who defined these rules anyway? And did they matter?
She spent an hour- staring at the pic, thinking about the impending decision. She had found her answers, she knew what the mattered the most at this point- it was “her happiness”. She summoned the family- it was time to talk.

Powerful story, I really enjoyed it! Sometimes we must lose a little dignity and be a little uncomfortable to blaze a new trail. A path that could bring others or ourselves happiness and meaning. Have a nice day!! =)

A bold move, and something that would bring her happiness. Age should not be a bar to find it.
Good take, Akshata.

Very true Mayuri hope more people don’t end up stifling their happiness for sake of society

This could make a really good movie. Excellent story. The society will not let us live our lives the way we want even when we are at the near end.

I completely agree with you Akshata. I don’t understand why women always think about others and never about themselves, their happiness. It’s right. Who defined these rules? It’s time to break free and live the life we want. No matter what the society or family says, we’ve done enough to satisfy both.

So true. At some point it has got to be about you and you alone. As always loved your story. ❤

Putting self on pedestal…why do we not love ourselves and put ourselves first? More power to her for walking with confidence and grace on the unconventional path.
