Anaisha and Arvind were silent today, their eyes did the talking. A few unspoken words on the tip of their tongue, memories of the last 7 years of courtship and marriage, a silent fear which ate them up- Long Distance was not easy.
One year down the line- who knew if the flame of love would still be burning bright? What if one of them fell in love with someone else, how about the carnal instincts? Too many unanswered questions. But they knew it was a conscious decision made for the betterment of their careers, a dream opportunity for her in Geneva- would she be happy letting that go?
As they sipped their coffee, their hands intertwined, both were at a loss of words. Who said love comes easy- the easiest part is holding hands but when it comes to making sacrifices, very few can sail through. Would they sail through together as one?

I wish that the distance will stock the flame of their love, further. And I hope they wont get burnt out by it too! Finding the plausible full stop to this story is so so difficult…
Well spun Akshata!

Girl, I am so proud of you…you are going places both in your career and blogging..keep it up. Long Distance is not easy however many balance perfectly.. In a way I feel long distance keeps the marriage alive as you do not have to deal with the daily drudgery.

That is not a story. That is a scene. Now, I want the story! Do they sail through as one? I hope so… but that would make it my story. It’s yours to write. You have whetted our appetites and left us hungry.

It was a 150 word story Holly and I left the ending to the imagination of readers!

Oh, I know. Those artificial constraints, though, tend to result in its feeling character sketches and “slice of life vignettes” stories, when they are still incomplete. I have several short stories with ambiguous endings – “left to the reader” as in “The Lady or the Tiger,” and those are a couple thousand words (one is 6000 words). I was physically assaulted for one of them! (By a friend, but her punch in the arm left a small bruise!!) so be aware it’s a risky move!

Distance doesn’t always make the heart grow fonder …. what happens to this couple? Long distance seems to be the rule rather than the exception in modern marriages and I think it is a strong man who can accept and support a career wife who has to travel ….

In the past and even today it’s mostly an unspoken rule that the wife travels where the man goes for his career- if women are learning to do something for themselves I think it’s a good thing. It’s always precarious for the relationship
