Harry stood at the deck, the moon illuminated the sky- it was a picture perfect sight. His Mama and Dad stood beside him- one perfect, happy family. He froze this thought in a corner of his heart, alas it was but a wish. Constant fights, followed by separation- it was a broken home.
As he took the ferry ride today, clutching his son Jon’s hand, his wife Sara holding Jon’s other hand, a part of him scoffed- “you have compromised too much with Sara”- the heart spoke- “But look at little Jon’s smiling face, that is priceless”
He had no second thoughts about his decision.

A beautiful short tale Aks! That’s incredibly sweet that he choose happiness of his son over him so that his son need not have the disturbed life he had!

Thanks Keerthi- I firmly believe once we become parents we need to think of the happiness of our kids to a large extent and some compromise if needed, should be made. This is debatable though, but from a child’s POV a happy family goes a long way in building happy memories

Indeed Aks! One should take that responsibility lovingly with a lot of dedication if not then its being unfair to kids.

Family is not always fun but lots of responsibility and compromise. Glad you wrote on this Aks. Loved the tale.

Aptly summed Lav it takes a lot of compromise but it’d worth it for you kid.

A growing child needs the warmth, care and love of both the parents but he/she can understand the undercurrents of a not-so-happy marriage. This is a contentious issue and the couple who find love and respect in a marriage are fortunate.
A very delicate topic handled, Akshata.

It’s always a tricky one- while I think a child needs to be happy and sometimes that happiness is in living with one parent, we as parents need to bear in mind that we may need to make some compromises in creating a conducive atmosphere for a child – by living together unless things are really awry . Thx for stopping by

I’m so glad Harry made compromises – I’m sure Sara also made compromises. And they’ll both reap the benefits throughout life, not just in Jon’s happiness, but by becoming closer to each other. Ultimately Harry will be a happy man for having chosen as he did.
Nicely written!

Aww Penny you always have the nicest things to say! I would like to hope too that they will rediscover love not just due to their son, but for themselves too!

He is a great parent. I am happy, having been on the receiving end didn’t make him bitter but more responsible.
Great story,Akshata.

I just hope he didn’t sacrifice too much just to compensate for what he lost as a kid. A very intriguing story, Akshata.

That’s always a tricky one Varad- how much is too much.

I hope Harry and Sara are able to find a path to contentment. If they don’t, their son will eventually see through the facade.

The very true- too much of compromise never leads to a happy family. There is always a limit to it

I agree children do come first but sometimes when the bitterness is too much, the decision to separate maybe for the best. Good writing 🙂

Agree completely that’s true. No point in building a family on crushed relationships
